A Community Payback supervisor role isn’t like a typical office job. You’re outdoors, on your feet, and working directly with offender carrying out work in local communities. It’s hard to know from a job description alone whether that’s the right fit for you.
That’s why we run Outcome in a Day – a chance to spend a day at a Community Payback project, see exactly what the role involves, and find out on the same day whether it’s for you.
What happens on the day
1. Visit a Community Payback project
You’ll spend time at a real project site with a supervisor and a group of offenders, seeing the day-to-day reality of the role – planning tasks, briefing the group, managing health and safety, and leading offenders to do the work to complete their sentence.
2. Learn what the job actually involves
You’ll get an honest picture of the practical, hands-on nature of the work, including weekend working as part of the normal pattern of the role, and the basic IT skills you’ll need for logging records and timesheets.
3. Decide if it’s right for you
Not every job suits everyone, and that’s fine. Outcome in a Day is designed so you can self-select out with no pressure and no impact on any future application, if you realise the role isn’t the right match.
4. Have your interview
If you want to go ahead, you’ll take part in a face-to-face interview on the same day. We’ll discuss your strengths and behaviours and how these match the role.
5. Get an outcome on the day
You’ll be told the outcome of your interview before you leave.
About any job offer
If your interview is successful, you may receive a conditional offer of employment on the day – conditional because it’s subject to full pre-employment checks, including basic vetting. These checks are carried out by SSCL and can take up to 12 weeks to complete, so your formal start date will follow once everything is confirmed.
If checks take longer than expected, you may be placed on a merit list and could be contacted for an alternative position for up to 12 months after your interview.
