HMP Long Lartin is easily accessible from the M5, M40 and M6. With plenty of onsite parking for staff, it’s a 45-minute drive from Cheltenham, Coventry and Worcester.
A regular train service runs into Evesham which is 6 miles from the prison, and a bus runs directly to the prison from outside the station. Please bear in mind that, as a prison officer, you will need to work shifts plus some unsocial hours and public holidays when public transport may not be running.

With a focus on supporting men to make positive changes to lead law-abiding lives in custody and after their release, HMP Long Lartin provides a range of educational, vocational training and work opportunities.
The education department offers a wide range of learning opportunities, from basic skills to Open University courses.
With the aim of enhancing prisoners’ chances of employment upon release from custody, accredited vocational training is available in woodcraft, bricklaying, barbering, industrial cleaning, laundry and painting and decorating. Contract work for commercial companies is also available in onsite plumbing and recycling industrial workshops.
Pay and benefits
As a prison officer, you will start on a 37 hour a week contract until you have completed your initial training. You can then choose to increase your hours to 39 or 41 hours. This means you can earn between £33,746 and £38,003 as a prison officer at HMP Long Lartin.
